Before you go island hopping from Athens, here are some important things to know about the beauty of the Greek Islands.

There are a lot of them.

Greece has over 6,000 islands within its territorial waters, and not all of them are inhabited. Some Islands like Aegina, Santorini, Mykonos are more popular than other islands because of their picturesque landscapes and world-famous monuments.

There are six groups of islands spread around Greece. It is next to impossible to cover all the big islands in a short time. The best option would be to visit one chain every time you visit Greece.

You can go island hopping from Athens to the Saronic Islands, or if you have time, you can spend one day in each of the colourful islands. Aegina, Spetses,  Salamis, Agkistri, and Poros are the main Saronic islands. Hydra is often added to the list although it belongs to the Argolic Gulf. You can board a ferry from Piraeus and the Peloponnese to reach most of these islands.

Athens Day Cruise runs one-day cruises to Aegina, Poros and Hydra, every day, all year aroynd.  They cover all the famous sites, and their ship has a lot of fun activities while travelling between the islands. You can opt for an upgrade on the ticket and buy the VIP pass if you prefer luxury during your cruise.

One important thing to remember while island hopping is that quality is more important than quantity. So instead of trying to cover 10 islands in 2 days, focus on spending a whole day in three important ones. Choose the islands based on their popularity, your preference for the views or history and the crowds.
